Lalaria Beach, Skiathos, by boat is the only way in: no road reaches its white cobbles and stone arch. Here are the cruises, speedboats and evening runs that go there, and what each one includes.

In a nutshell
Lalaria Beach, Skiathos, by boat is not one option among several; it is the only one. Visit Greece places the beach on the island's north side and says it can be reached only by sea.3 The municipality adds the condition that shapes every plan: boats go there from the port of Skiathos only when the sea is dead calm.1 Each boat on this page depends on that single word, calm, more than on any timetable.
Skiathos has more than 60 beaches, and Visit Greece counts Lalaria, with its white pebbles and sheer cliffs, among the most impressive in Greece.4 The municipality describes the north-coast beaches as less organised and wilder, with waves that suit windsurfing, while the south side offers calm water for families.5 Lalaria belongs to that wild northern shore, and it looks every bit the part from the water.
In practice a Lalaria day is a weather bet. Book early in your stay, keep a second date in reserve and check the wind forecast the evening before. The listing for the Kalypso day warns that rough seas or high winds can change its route and its stops. A rescheduled trip is a far better outcome than an uneasy hour bobbing off a beach that no boat can safely approach in a heavy swell.

The beach takes its name from its stones. Visit Greece explains that the white, rounded stones on the shore are themselves called lalaria.3 The municipality writes that the north wind, striking the steep white cliffs above, has been shaping them for millennia.7 Up close they are smooth and pale, and on a bright day the whole shore seems to glow against the turquoise water below the cliffs.
Beside the beach stands a natural rock arch that locals call Trypia Petra, the holed rock.8 Visit Greece notes that the ecosystem here is fragile, so landing is controlled and gathering the pebbles is prohibited.8 The municipality is blunter still: it says that removing cobbles from the beach is strictly forbidden and that Lalaria is not an organised beach in any sense.2 The rules are simple to keep, and keeping them costs you nothing at all.
Not organised means you should expect no facilities, so bring the shade, the water and the snacks yourself. Pack a hat and sun cream before you board, and wear sandals that cope with hot, rolling stones underfoot. The cobbles look tempting as a souvenir, yet they stay on the beach. A photograph of the arch in low afternoon light is the keepsake to carry home instead, and it weighs nothing in your bag.

Lalaria can be accessed only by sea and strictly when there is dead calm by daily boats off the port of Skiathos.
On the Kalypso day, Kastro follows Lalaria after a 5-minute sail, with 1 hour at Kastro Beach. Visit Greece tells the story behind the ruins above it: in the Middle Ages pirate raids drove the islanders out of their old town and into the Castle on the north side, a natural fortress above the open sea.9 From the beach below, the logic of that choice is easy to read in the height and steepness of the rock.
The municipality places Kastro beach at the northernmost point of Skiathos, 11 km from the modern town, under the medieval settlement.6 It writes that the boats leaving the port each day reach Kastro easily, while drivers find the road ending short of it and must finish on foot.10 The beach faces the wind and usually has waves; it is not organised, though it does have a taverna for a drink in the shade.11
With an hour ashore, decide early between the swim and a walk up to the ruins. Do not try the climb in flip-flops: wear shoes with some grip, carry water and leave the beach bag on board if the crew allows it. A swim off the pebbles afterwards, then a cold drink at the taverna, rounds off the stop nicely as long as you keep one eye on the clock. The crew will name a time; be back on the pebbles a little before it.

Caves are the other draw of this coast, and the listings treat them in different ways. The 1st Choice Santorini cruise on the Kalypso includes a visit to the Blue Caves. The private speedboat run by Prive Boat Rentals & Cruises goes further and takes its guests into the Dark Cave and the Blue Cave by boat. Read each listing for the words visit and enter: they promise different things.
Skiathos Boats runs its JOKER rib with a skipper and gives the Blue and Dark Cave 30 minutes, after 45 minutes at Lalaria and before a 30-minute photo stop at the Byzantine Castle of Skiathos. The municipality's sailing page lists a dip in the Blue Cave among the pleasures of a boat holiday around the Sporades.24 Bring a mask if you own one; cave water is worth seeing from below the surface too.
Agios Panteleimonas is another north-coast beach that only boats can reach; the municipality notes that walkers heading for Kastro can admire it from above.25 Coves like these reward a small, fast boat that can stop wherever the water is calm and the light is right. The trade-off is price: a private boat is booked for your own group alone and costs many times the fare of a shared cruise.
After Kastro the Kalypso sails 15 minutes to 2 hours of free time, which the listing places at Katigioris or Asselinos Beach, then another 15 minutes to Tsougria Beach for a 50-minute swim. The NST Santorini Tours cruise on the same boat also names Katigioris or Asselinos and gives free time on Tsougris Island. Food and drinks are not included on either listing, so the long stop doubles as your lunch break.
The municipality writes that a north wind throws big waves onto Aselinos, a north-coast beach reached by a partly unpaved dirt road or by boat.23 On a still day that means clear water and room to spread out; on a windy one the same beach can turn rough very quickly. Pack a light lunch of your own if you would rather spend the whole break in the water than sitting at a taverna table.
A Skiathos boat to Tsougria is a short hop: the municipality puts the islet less than 2 nautical miles off the port, east of the southern tip of Skiathos, with pines, olive trees, two small lakes and an abandoned oil press.19 Visit Greece adds that fish, crayfish and lobsters, the local tsoflia, are caught around rocky islets such as Tsougria and Kastro.26 It makes a gentle last swim before the run home.
The three Kalypso listings start from the same low fare, from $56 each, and differ mainly in their stops and their seller. The Sea and Sun Island Day Cruise is rated 4.21 from 464 reviews, the Lalaria, Kastro and Tsougris cruise 4.12 from 103, and the Lalaria and Blue Caves tour 4.03 from 54. Compare the stop lists before the scores: the cave visit or the free time on Tsougris may matter more to you than a tenth of a point.
The private speedboat from Prive Boat Rentals & Cruises lasts 3 hours, gives 1.5 hours at Lalaria and starts from $647, with a rating of 4.85 from 39 reviews. The Skiathos Boats rib with a skipper runs 4 hours from $183 and includes pickup, drinks, towels and snorkels. Both are booked as private groups, with an English-speaking crew. Neither listing says how many guests its starting price covers, so ask before you compare it with a shared fare.
For an evening view, the sunset cruise sold by MTM Experiences meets at the Old Port at 18:15 on the boat Elisabet Cruises, swims at Lalaria, passes below Kastro and stops near the Kastronisia islets for the sunset, in 3 hours from $44. One drink per person is included; food and further drinks are not. It carries the lowest fare on this page, and it ends the day in the right light.
The Kalypso leaves from the New Port, opposite Alpha Bank, with departure at 09:15, and pickup is offered from the main road by the hotels. Bourtzi separates that new port from the old one, where the sunset boat and the private speedboat meet their guests.12 Allow a few spare minutes to find the right quay, and keep the boat's name on your phone to show a crew member if you are unsure where to stand.
Check who each boat suits. The Sea and Sun cruise lists wheelchair users and people prone to seasickness as not suited, and the Blue Caves tour adds non-swimmers. The sunset cruise also excludes pregnant women and non-swimmers, and provides life jackets for all ages but no infant seats. With small children, the shorter evening run is a gentler first taste of the sea than a full day on deck.
Every listing on this page offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before, a useful safety net on a coast that needs calm water. One detail on the sunset run: route changes for weather inside that 24-hour window are not refunded. Book, watch the forecast, and move your date early if the north wind is up. A calm morning off the white cliffs is worth the small effort of a flexible plan, and the boats on this page make changing that plan easy.
